Mental illness and ADA

We have an ee who is showing signs of mental incapacity and the facility manager is aware that he is bipolar. He went to the doctor yesterday to see if he needs an adjustment to his meds. He has been here for well over one year. We are concerned about his behavior as he is displaying peaks in his temper over things he never reacted to before. We may have to suspend him and give him his FMLA papers along with a form for his physician to let us know the status on his therapy and job related restrictions if any. Does this also fall under ADA and what needs to be done to accomodate his illness.
